3G is closing - act now to stay connected.
The countdown has started as businesses all around New Zealand prepare their IoT solutions for the newer, better 4G and 5G.
Due to this change, it's important to develop a plan for transitioning IoT devices that still utilise our network.
Please note, that if you are a CloudX customer and have IoT solutions with us, but are unsure how to proceed please contact your account manager
to help walk you through the transition process.
What to do now?
To help minimise disruption to your IoT network, below are some key checks and strategies to help you prepare for the shutdown of 3G
1. Network Assessment
- Evaluate your current IoT solutions and infrastructure to locate devices that are currently reliant on the 3G network.
- Determine the impact of the 3G shutdown on operations and customer services.
- Determine the compatibility of your devices with alternative networks such as 4G Band 28 (700Mhz)
2. Communicate
- Inform all customers, partners, and internal staff about the 3G shutdown along with its implications.
- Offer clear and precise support for inquiries regarding the shutdown and transition process.
- Inform customers on the benefits of migrating to newer networks and the possible impact on their current IoT infrastructure.
3. Migration Plan
- Build a comprehensive migration plan outlining timelines and transition procedures.
- Prioritize devices and solutions for migration based on operational impact, customer impact, and network dependency.
- If further help is needed in developing a migration plan and further migrating please contact your account manager or request a call here: Schedule a call
4. Device Testing
- Carry out complete testing of new or transitioned IoT hardware to ensure compatibility and reliability.
- Confirm performance under real-world conditions to identify any issues and resolve them proactively.
- Develop a backup plan in the event of a failure during migration to prevent operational and customer impact.
5. Device Deployment
- Carry out the migration plan in steps, starting with non-critical devices and eventually transitioning to high-impact ones.
- Monitor the transition closely and address any unforeseen problems that can be resolved.
- Offer training and support for your teams responsible for deploying and maintaining your IoT infrastructure.
6. Optimisation
- Closely monitor network connectivity and performance by implementing solutions to track the status of decives post-transition allowing you to promptly address any faults and disruptions.
